Disc Duplication or Replication?
DVD & CD Duplication
CD duplication is the burning of DVD-Rs or CD-Rs with a laser. Duplication can be carried out on a range of disc sizes (8cm-12cm) and at different quantities. Over 2000 discs can be duplicated with just one robotic CD duplicating machine. However this method can become relatively expensive for runs exceeding 2000 discs.
DVD & CD Replication
CD replication involves actually pressing the discs with molten aluminium for the reflective surface and polycarbonate for the rest of the disc. Replication is most efficient for the production of quantities over 2000 discs as the fixed cost of the process becomes spread across the output. CD replication results in high quality discs due to the process used in printing the discs. A five color silk screen is often used for printing on replicates.
